I hope you weren't RECENTLY reading a 1977 RD because you've been waiting in a waiting room?FruitCakehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15660225514077942415noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2523157134200402843.post-90037937058177160822011-10-28T22:04:30.436+11:002011-10-28T22:04:30.436+11:00I recently read an article about an inner city Syd...I recently read an article about an inner city Sydney school's success in raising literacy standards in its largely non-English speaking student population. How? Extended family involvement, bi-lingual team teaching, lesson relevance to multicultural values.

And where was this groundbreaking story? In a 1977 Readers Digest!!Red Nomad OZhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03020668094026661054noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2523157134200402843.post-6812234789777118742011-10-23T21:22:47.211+11:002011-10-23T21:22:47.211+11:00Hi Dina,

Not only is health more important, without it, school will achieve nothing.

Hi Andrew,
I'm not sure what the third and inclusive way might be, but I suspect the more we include extended families in the class room, the closer we will approximate the 'natural' learning processes of unwesternised Aboriginals.FruitCakehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15660225514077942415noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2523157134200402843.post-68664317401298418172011-10-21T11:00:52.636+11:002011-10-21T11:00:52.636+11:00Four score!!! Two cultures will continue to clash until a third and inclusive way is found.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2523157134200402843.post-67595926439815757872011-10-21T02:30:18.650+11:002011-10-21T02:30:18.650+11:00I think that letter made a good point.
The other ...I think that letter made a good point.

The other thing I'm thinking...

School doesn't end when kids go home. They have homework. If their home life is destitute, doing homework and keeping up with other kids in the class is going to be very difficult.

School likely won't be a sanctuary from their home life if they feel it's too hard to keep up with the work.

Back to the letter though...

Yeah. I think health should definitely come first.Dina Roberts https://www.blogger.com/profile/05558115658079175456noreply@blogger.com
