former expert now our favourite expat

Well, if no publicity is bad publicity, Germaine Greer is looking after herself. Now she has accused Julia Gillard of being a member of the Jass family; a daughter of Hugh himself.
Further, it seems Julia’s jackets are not flattering.

Naturally, Mr Rabbitt has leapt on the band wagon – a bit rich coming from a bloke who likes parading around in budgie smugglers. This is probably the first time he has ever agreed with anybody, and it took a big arse to bring it on. [Hmmmm… Don’t know how this fits with his Church’s insistence that the potential for procreation, and procreation alone, can justify marriage.]

If the cover of Germs’ widely influential book of feminist theories is anything to go by, she has not simply been more obnoxious than usual, she is guilty of the basest hypocrisy imaginable.

I dislike Julia’s power-at-any-cost policies intensely, but I would be horrified if this country was led [for want of a better word] by a vacuous bimbo. Her jackets show more respect for the parliament than the behaviour of she and her fellow politicians ever could.

  1. I knew this would happen sooner or later and pretty sad that Germs set the ball rolling.

    1. I guess it was inevitable, especially once she became the "real Julia" and started wearing the eyelashes, but sad on many levels. The media thrives by eliciting or reporting emotional statements, and Germs loves to exploit it.

  2. I've no problem with the jackets Julia wears either they look quite smart. I've seen Ms Greer dressed in clothes that look like they've come direct from the op-shop and border on feral. Long live the Budgie Smugglers :-).

    1. I'll make an exception for your speedos, Windsmoke, but only if they are black and red.

  3. To be fair, that's pretty cool as book covers go!

    1. Icy, the cover was a piece of inspired genius, like the book. Unfortunately, while the cover remains true to the content, the author does not.

    2. Remember seeing her on TV a couple of years ago (I think with Stephen Fry) and remember thinking she's a bit past it to follow through with any coherent argument . I'd blame old age and senility rather than any significant change in principles.

  4. I used to love Doris day, her films and songs. Julia's jackets look smart but probably are not flattering from the back. I also was a fan of Germaine not so much now. I'm certainly not a fan of the budgie smuggler.

    1. I'd much rather watch Calamity Jane than budgie smugglers!

  5. HHHMMMmmm, yes! Budgie smugglers have their place ... although not sure they're anywhere near Abbott!! I must confess to being a little surprised by G's vitriol - almost as if she was sacrificing the sisterhood to play it for laughs?!?!

    1. Must admit I'm only annoyed with her based on hearsay - this time. Interesting, though, some people are now saying 'ang about, 'ow come s'alright for you lot to slag off at the speedos, so why in't the jackets fair game?
To which one must respond "when Abbott parades round in his togs, no one complains the person wearing them is too big".
But seriously, Germs was always up for a bit of a stir, right from the get go. Perhaps it was partly attention seeking.
It's just that she has to try so much harder these days - firstly to compensate for the fact she lives over there and we've forgotten her; and secondly because she's simply has nothing novel to say any more.
