god bless 'em

This makes Whitlam's supply crisis of 1975 look like a storm in a teacup. The leader of the House of Reps has used his majority to say only he will decide when the house can vote on whether the US government should stay shut down or not.

There's something weird about how civilised these people are as they say they don't give a shit about any of the people affected.

  1. I suppose every country's political system seems odd to outsiders, but the US system seems extra odd. Chads indeed ended up with Bush becoming president. Perhaps Obama should take a death stare lesson from our Julie Bishop.

    1. When we had our recent cwlth election, a chappie with a septic accent told me he had used a pen without thinking.... would his vote still be picked up by the computer? Naturally I represented the AEC well by keeping a 'straight' face.

Is there a chance that death stare is caused by contact lenses?

    1. The whole business is weird... the gfc was caused by banks with dodgy loans toppling like dominos. Now their national government is printing money in a demented frenzy and after all their carry on about the level of debt it took an attempt to set up a minimally decent health care scheme before the conservatives put their foot down.

At least when no one could get paid in the Qld Health system month after month it was just a typically mismanaged software problem.
I was sort of hoping that with Mr Rabbit finally stopping his relentlessly negative talk about our own economy, it might restore some business confidence in Oz and create some jobs.

Don't know what planet I'm from, really.

  3. pen? pencil? I always take my own PEN to vote. and a septic votes here?
Love you Andrew for reminding us of the insanity of pregnant chads.

I watched WhoDoYouThinkYouAre and had the difference explained neatly of how our Constitutional Monarchy evolved from getting rid of a King who was a bit too "off with his head" (and it also involved Protestant good guys v. Papist bad guys) . Our Constitutional Monarchy is a good thing (11 Nov 1975 notwithstanding) and I admit I did not vote for change when the republican referendum was so soundly rejected. I cannot be responsible for my actions if TA (see papists above) stumps that one up again.
WHY oh why are right wing conservatives such poor losers?

    1. "Papists"? Do you think it will be "Curtins" for democracy?

Our arch-conservative Gina has never lost a cent in her life, but she cries poor all the time. [Frightening to think she has a name like Regina, come to think of it. Next time I might vote pro republic.]

  4. Have they any idea what real democracy is ? I cringe every time I hear them prattle on about fighting for freedom when they don't really have it anyway.I had to laugh today when talking to my daughter who lives in LA asked me to take some blu-tack for her when I go on Friday . She asked, "What sort of a dumb ass country doesn't have blu-tack.?"

    1. Some Australians don't know much about the world, but I wonder sometimes if it's just indifference. USians, on the other hand, seem decidedly insular as a nation and, except for a few paranoid conspiracy theorists, totally lacking in cynicism.

      Keep safe and have fun!
