rhythm – more than a mere method

My original plan for this post was to chat about meeting friends under the clocks today, but I became distracted while looking for YouTube footage of Flinders Street Station.

[The last time I saw that much fun happening in the mall was when a busker was telling his story about the burning building, the baby, and Alex Jesaulenko.]

It seems there is to be an “International Zouk Flash Mob” on September 16, centred around Southbank but likely to pop up at other points around the city.

What, you may ask, is Zouk?

If I make it to Southbank on the day it will only be as a passive participant. The problem is not that I would be embarrassed to show my navel in public, the problem is that I haven’t been able to find it for years.

  1. Love the flash mob and the music was well chosen. Now is Zouk that company that runs all the hospital cafes? No? Must be like Zumba then.

    1. The "bollywood' style music was particularly well chosen - the sort of thing that helps pass the time when doing housework.
Zouk and zumba seem to have originated in roughly the same parts of the world - from french caribbean all the way to columbia, and a concoction of other, more traditional styles.

I'd never heard of zouk cafes, but it seems there is one in Malaysia - is that where you first encountered one? The cafe websites seem to mention music and atmosphere as part of a total dining experience. As for Zumba [which looks like fun, I guess all dancing is good exercise... though regular classes add the essential ingredient I currently lack which is the discipline to actually get up and move.

Hopefully the weather will be a lot more inviting on the 16th.

  2. If a flash mob happens and is not put up on YouTube...then did it really happen?

I don't think I've ever seen a live flash mob. Have you?

    I'd like to some day.

I'll be interested to know if you end up knocking into the Zouk one.

I don't imagine you often go all the way to Southbank on a regular basis. OR do you? Now I'm all curious.

    I'm way too nosy.

If that bothers you....remember this is just a randomly generated comment. Don't take it too personally.

  3. Ah...I see I misread your post. I thought you were saying if I happen to be in Southbank that day. But it's more like you might make an effort to go there SO you can see the flash mob.

    Sorry. My mistake.

I hope the weather is good and you're able to get over there.

    1. LOL Dina - random reply:)

Apologies - with this new blogger interface I seem to have randomly deleted one of your comments. I feel cheated.

No, you are not nosy. I did go to southbank one day. We had visitors from Brisbane and I hopped on a free city circle tourist tram as a quick way to get from A to B. I had no idea they had changed the route and it now travels via southbank, so I must admit I have been there - once.

Like you, I have never seen a flash mob, but I think it would be fun even if it is not a surprise.

If a tree falls in a forest and no one hears it, does it exist? If a dog barks continuously in a forest and no one hears it, is he still a naughty boy? Is that where we are headed?

I hope the weather is good whether we get there or not!

  4. WAY too random for me ... but it bothers me that I could read a perfectly reasonable post and not understand most of the words in it! Is this what getting old means?!?!?!

    1. Red, when we age it is our short term memory that seems to go first. Random Access Memory is computer memory.

But if, despite your height, this has all gone over your head it is no reflection on you. Dina had the hide to confess she just generates random replies to my posts because she doesn't read them.

Please be assured that I am always happy when you drop in, and this reply has been created just for you. Personally.
